Thanks to Ed Catto and Joe Ahearn for including Jay Piscopo's pin-up of the retro version of Captain Action. Captain Action was one of Jay's first toys as a kid so this was a particularly fun pin-up to draw.

This book is published by Moonstone. Jay is currently working with Martin Powell on a forthcoming Moonstone book THE SPIDER: Curse of the Unholy 3. Read more about that book at this link.

Holiday Gift Guide: The Undersea Adventures of Capt'n Eli

November 18, 2010

By Katie Campbell

Where has the art of comics gone? That is what I would like to know. I know that my son Reece, is always stopping me when we are in the library to look at the comics, but I seriously cannot find them anywhere. Am I living under a rock? I also know that every Sunday Reece races for the Comic section to read the funnies. See, there is an audience for them and it looks like Capt'n Eli knows that!

The Undersea Adventures of Capt'n Eli are graphic comic novels that take the reader on sea, air, and outerspace adventures with Capt'n Eli, his best friend Barney, and Jolly Roger the 200 year old Parrot. We read Volume 1, which includes "They Mystery of Me" and "The Mystery of Sargasso Sea" and I know that it definitely kept me interested and Reece didn't even put it down! Continue reading HERE.

Newsarama: Jeff Marsick Reviews "Reading With Pictures"

Jeff Marsick writes about the new Reading With Pictures anthology:

"One-hundred and ninety-two pages, thirty-seven stories. And lest you think it’s a collection of never-heard-ofs as contributors, here’s a partial roll call of some of the more notable names: Jill Thompson (who did the cover), Fred Van Lente, Gabriel Bautista, Chris Eliopoulos, Rich Faber, Steve Horton, Kevin Sacco, Jay Piscopo, Russell Lissau. More than sixty creative types (writers, artists, colorists and letterers) built this book, and I would defy anyone to find a better collection of kid-friendly stories in one package."

Check out his Best Shot Review of Reading With Pictures on Newsarama at this link.

"If you’re a teacher, administrator, or librarian, buy a few copies of this book. It would be a bargain at twice the price. If you’re a parent, buy a copy for home. It’s hard to find quality kid-friendly titles that are as delightful to read as this one is." ~ Jeff Marsick, Newsarama

Stand by for Halloween adventure!

The Undersea Adventures of Capt'n Eli fans Caden (age 4) and Hadley (age 2) sent this photo of their Halloween costumes.

Caden makes a great Capt'n Eli! We love seeing Jolly Roger on his shoulder and his Seasearcher symbol is wonderful -- welcome to the crew!

Could Hadley be any better as Capt'n Eli's faithful pal Barney the Sea Dog? I bet she can tie some great nautical knots just like the real Barney in the graphic novels.

Thanks for reading and for sharing this photo with us.

Stand by for Adventure!
